what I learned

There's something so transcendent when it comes to fashion, style, and the trends presented within that world. Through my time with Modura, I ultimately learned where my passions and desires within the world of UX lie - that they are found primarily where the visual aspects are shared the most.

Couple of "golden nuggets" gained through this sprint:

  • Pictures truly are worth a thousand words - within my career as a creative dork, I've spent thousands of hours filtering through stock images and videos - it's a vital part of the trade in picking the perfect image (balanced, fits color sheme, connects with the brand, etc.) Modura was a great avenue of growth of just how much more important selecting the right images can be in the world of style and fashion.

  • I'm not nearly as cool as I'd like to be (or think I am) - this prompted a quick glimpse at my own attire, the definition of "cool," and how I'm more so living in an area that is somewhat adjacent to cool.

I like to think I've chosen substance over style, but in reality I'm just a dork that depends on his wife to help him look a little better when going out.

the background

Modura is a new eCommerce clothing brand designed for trendy men and women between 18 and 25 years old. These individuals are early in their careers and are looking for an affordable solution for business casual clothing to wear to their jobs in urban areas.

They are fashion-forward, and conscious of trends. They want to dress for the jobs they want without appearing overdressed.

purpose

To rebrand, develop, and design hi-fis that fit within the stylish and fashion-forward world that has been created by Modura - presenting an app that connects vibe with functionality when purchasing clothing.

We kicked things off by associating specific words, goals, and the direction Modura was looking to develop from within their creative brief.

FASHION-FORWARD,

BUSINESS CASUAL,

branding

Utilizing those words and themes, I sketched out a plethora (word not used nearly enough) of possibilities that connected with what I believed Modura stood for and where they wanted to proceed in their goals / dreams.

Modura-Logos

From sketches to screens, I developed the three that best connected with Modura's voice and what would eventually become the new branding for their environment.

Ultimately, I selected the first logo option as Modura's new signature - based on the modern, minimalist styles it invoked that could easily be placed anywhere.

Deciding the color palette and typography of Modura took a while in discovering which best connected with it's voice.

Torn between a vibrant, young, bold palette (#1) and a cooler, urban, professional palette (#2), users helped connect the dots as to what resinated best with the style and purpose behind the clothes.

Color palette two became an easy choice and the thicker headings for typography soon followed - bringing in the logo and a continued modern flow.

Modura-Style-Tile

The style tile was created, showcasing the unique voice that Modura presents in reaching young, urban, trendy professionals. Following the tile's development, hi-fis were designed and Modura was on it's way to housing the app they originally dreamt about.

next steps:

  • Continue to build out product screens and check-out procedures.

  • Run usability testing to determine accurate user flow and iterate from there.

  • Dress better, Bobby. C'mon.
